Do You Want to Build a Boy Band?

I have my internet back!!  WOOHOO!!!

So, my friend Amelia from Twitter showed me a video a friend of hers showed her.  Let me just say that I fell in love... with a Disney prince (Prince Eric to be exact).

The boy band IM5 and singer Todrick Hall (you may know him from American Idol) created these "Disney Dudez" videos.  Each member of IM5 portrays a Disney prince, while Todrick Hall plays Mickey.

In the first video, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Mulan, and Jasmine break-up with their princes.  Mickey the Janitor walks in and tells them, "Hey, why not form a boy band?"  Each song they sing is to a hit like "ABC" by Jackson 5 and "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction.

In video two, Prince Charming leaves the Disney Dudez.  I would take that as the actual boy left the actual band IM5.  Because he leaves, they hold auditions for a new member (this video's my favorite).

In the third video, fame has gone to the heads of the princes and their girls are not happy.  The Disney Dudez need to get their acts together.

Anyway, I think these videos are so clever and the boys sound amazing together.

You can purchase the songs "Disney Dudez 2" and "Disney Dudez 3" on iTunes, as well as IM5's new song "Heartless."  Todrick is currently on a nationwide tour and you can purchase his songs on iTunes, too.  Check out Todrick on Twitter here and IM5 on Twitter here.

Arabian Nights

Due to some medical problems, attending my Senior prom would've been a little difficult, so instead of going to prom, I went into New York City with my cousins and we saw Aladdin on Broadway.

It was SPECTACULAR.  The music, the acting, the choreography, everything!  Adam Jacobs, the man who is usually Aladdin, was not in attendance on Friday, so Aladdin was played by Joshua Dela Cruz, a friend of my cousin's from college!  We were waiting on line to get in when she saw on the board it said "The Role Of Aladdin Will Be Played By:  Joshua Dela Cruz" and she freaked out.  He was incredible!

Courtney Reed (Jasmine) was amazing as well.  Her voice was flawless and she fit the role perfectly.  Jonathan Freeman played Jafar, just like he did in the movie!  I liked seeing the real "voice" playing the same character on the stage.  I think him playing Jafar really helped make the play so great.

And my favorite character was the Genie, played by James Monroe Iglehart.  My favorite song of the whole show was "Friend Like Me" which was performed by the Genie, Aladdin, and the ensemble.  The performance was so incredible, there was a two minute standing ovation by the audience.  My cousin said the only time she has ever seen a standing ovation after a song was when Idina Menzel performed "The Wizard and I" in Wicked.

Another great performance was "Arabian Nights," which opened the musical.  Here's a video of that performance on Good Morning America.

Proud of Your Boy

Just when I think I have learned so much about music I learn something completely new.

I was looking through a list of songs on the website CollegeCandy and saw the song "21 and Invincible" by the band Something Corporate.  I was intrigued by the sound of the tune and just had to Google the group.  Apparently, Lauren Conrad's fiancĂ© William Tell was a former member of this band!

You learn something new every day.

I also learned from BuzzFeed that "Part of Your World" was almost cut from The Little Mermaid.  How could they have even considered cutting that song from that movie?!

I swear my mind just keeps getting blown.

And I also learned, from that same article, that "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" was cut from The Lion King and Elton John told producers to put the song back in the film when he watched it with the piece removed.

I'm sorry the Disney facts are going to continue due to the BuzzFeed article.

John Lennon denied Disney's requests for The Beatles to provide the vultures' voices in The Jungle Book.  That would've been cool to hear their voices in that film!

A song called "Proud of Your Boy" was cut from the movie Aladdin but is in the Broadway musical.

Christina Aguilera's debut single was "Reflection" from Mulan.

Let It Go

To me, Idina Menzel has one of the best singing voices ever.  Not only does her voice just sound incredible, but her vocal range can't compare to the majority of singers around today.

The first time I heard her sing was when I heard "Defying Gravity" from the Broadway production of Wicked.  The last two minutes of the song brings goosebumps to my arms every single time I hear it.  She hits the notes and holds them for an impressive amount of time.

But most recently I was incredibly impressed with her performances in Disney's Frozen as Elsa.  I particularly love the song "Let It Go."  Menzel sounds completely flawless (as usual) and the song is very good as well.  Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the lyrics fit her voice perfectly.

Got Me Going Crazy

With the Jonas Brothers' sudden split, I have been thinking about their music a lot recently.

The band has released four studio albums:

  1. It's About Time - 2006
  2. Jonas Brothers - 2007
  3. A Little Bit Longer - 2008
  4. Lines, Vines, and Trying Times - 2009
I liked the fact that they released a new album every year, especially because I hate waiting!!

Right now, I'm listening to their song "Got Me Going Crazy" off their third album, A Little Bit Longer.  The album got its title from the song Nick wrote about his diabetes.  That was their second best album, their most popular being their fourth and final record Lines, Vines, and Trying Times (as far as the peak chart rankings are concerned).

The brothers released their first record with Columbia records, but released the others with a different label, Hollywood.  Does that have something to do with the fact that they worked with Disney?  We can only assume.

I miss the JoBros, I don't know about you.  Their music was good and they seem like really decent guys.  I was young when they were big like One Direction, so it's kind of an upsetting incident.

Grim Grinning Ghosts

I thought I'd refer back to those Disney Sing-Along Song videos I used to watch.  In the Halloween one I spoke of earlier this month, there is this song called "Grim Grinning Ghosts" that a few Disney villains sing on the front lawn of Haunted Mansion Disneyland.

When you're young, you find a lot of things frightening, and this was one of them.  But, since music has always been the love of my life, I did quite enjoy it.

[Source:  YouTube / Disney]

It is not necessarily the song that is creepy, I think it is the creepy characters.  I mean, Disney chose the scariest villains like the Big Bad Wolf.  Just look at him!  Does anyone else feel like he is going to eat you?!  That tongue, though.

So, I'll be out tomorrow night, considering it's Halloween, so I won't promise that I'll post.  If I do not, then HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips

We are rapidly approaching Halloween.  The song "Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips" by Nancy Cassidy always gets me in the mood for the spooky holiday.

The song was later covered by Bruce Springsteen and appeared in the Disney Sing Along Songs video, Happy Haunting:  Party at Disneyland, which is how I know it.

Here are the lyrics to the silly song [Source: lyricsfreak.com]:

When I was a little kid
I never liked to eat
Mom would put things on my plate
And i'd dump 'em on her feet
But then one day she made this soup
I ate it all in bed
I asked her what she put in it
And this is what she said:

"Oh, chicken lips and lizard hips
And alligator eyes
Monkey legs and buzzard eggs
And salamander thighs
Rabbit ears and camel rears
And tasty toenail pies
Stir 'em all together
And it's mama's soup surprise"

I went into the bathroom
And i stood beside the sink
I said, "I'm feeling slightly ill
And I think I'd like a drink"

Mama said, "I've just the thing
I'll get it in a wink
It's full of lots of protein
And vitamins, I think"

"Oh, chicken lips and lizard hips
And alligator eyes
Monkey legs and buzzard eggs
And salamander thighs
Rabbit ears and camel rears
And tasty toenail pies
Stir 'em all together
And it's mama's soup surprise"

As Halloween gets closer and closer, I'll be posting more frequently about some spooky (and not so spooky) Halloween songs to get you in the spirit...even if you are not a huge fan of Halloween like me.

Home

I am home from my amazing trip to Disney World and will be posting things about my trip tomorrow - music things of course!!

For a quick overview, I heard several different genres of music from several different places.  Our resort was the Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, a New Orleans, LA themes resort along, well, the river.  The hotel, the parks, the rides, and the transportation all played classic Disney songs and songs that go well with whatever you were doing.
