Little Talks and Dirty Paws

Indie folk/pop music has been on my radar the past 48 hours or so.  Of Monsters and Men, especially.

The five-piece band from Iceland (now there's a country you don't see often) formed in 2010.

In 2011, they released their first EP called Into the Woods which included four songs and reaches a total of 17 minutes and 45 seconds, "Little Talks" (one of my favorites) being one of them.

The debut album for the group titled My Head Is an Animal was released that same year of 2011 in Iceland and is longer than the EP at 59 minutes and 38 seconds.  Because of it's success in Iceland, the album was released in April 2012 in the US.  Three singles have come off the album so far:  "Little Talks," "Dirty Paws," and "Mountain Sound."  My favorite off this record is "Your Bones."  The lead singer Nanna's voice sounds fantastic in the beginning.

Now I'll get into a little bit about the band itself.  The group currently has five members (I don't know how to say their names, either):

  • Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir - lead vocals, acoustic guitar
  • Ragnar Þórhallsson - lead vocals, acoustic guitar
  • Brynjar Leifsson - lead guitar, baritone guitar, backing vocals
  • Kristján Páll Kristjánsson - bass guitar, backing vocals
  • Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson - drums, percussion, backing vocals
The vinyl LP of My Head Is an Animal is available pretty much wherever records are sold.  I will definitely be picking up a copy in the near future.
