Evangeline

It really is crazy how different a vinyl sounds from an CD.

I am listening to "Evangeline" recorded by Emmylou Harris and The Band on my iTunes playlist.  I usually listen to the song on The Last Waltz original vinyl and it is incredible how different they sound.  You see with vinyls, the song is directly recorded onto the record while CDs are just "copies" of the songs which are edited and what not.

But this is only true if you have classic records.  New records like Skrillex and Fun. are just like CDs so for you to really see the difference you need a Peter Allen or Men at Work album.

Besides a Beatles' record, I truly think nothing can compare to this record. I spoke of the DVD on Thanksgiving when it was the anniversary of this concert, but I just had to speak of it again this week. With special guests like Ringo Starr, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and many more, there is no doubt that this really was the celebration The Band wanted it to be. If I had to pick a favorite from this record, I'm going to say it is "Evangeline" featuring Emmylou Harris. But, "Theme From The Last Waltz" is amazing, too. The music in this song is absolutely incredible.

My "Oldies"

I have a total of 500 songs on my iPhone.  And sometimes when I'm in the mood to listen to a classic song, it's a hassle going through my million songs to find a good classic.  So, having the amount of extra time that I do, I created a new playlist on my phone entitled, "Oldies".  Now, when I say "oldies", I mean anything before 1990.  I know to some of you that may seem not that old, but may I remind you that I was not born before 1990, so anything before that is, well, a little old.  Sorry.  I thought I would share with you SOME of the songs I placed in the playlist (I'd name them all but the list would be a little lengthy):

The Last Waltz

The Band is definitely an amazing band. This past Thanksgiving was the 36th anniversary of their "The Last Waltz" concert - their final concert as a band before breaking up.
The Band started in 1964 and in 1965 they were hired to be the back-up band for Bob Dylan on his US and world tours. On Thanksgiving Day in 1976, the Band, consisting of Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson, got together at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, CA for one final concert entitled "The Last Waltz" and was described as their "farewell concert appearance".
At 5:00 p.m., the audience of 5,000 was served turkey dinner and at 9:00, the Band started their show, opening with "Up on Cripple Creek". Eleven more of their most famous songs followed including "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down".
But the concert wasn't over yet as many other famous performers made appearances. Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Muddy Waters, The Staples, Ringo Starr, Ron Wood, Dr. John, Paul Butterfield, and Ronnie Hawkins were all included in this important night.
After five-hours, The Last Waltz came to an end. Robbie Robertson said, "We knew this was the most powerful musical experience of our days together and a very satisfying and beautiful way to bring it all to a conclusion."
