American Girl

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' second single from their debut album, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.  It is from 1977 and people still play it all the time.  That is when you know a song was a good one.

The chorus is only four lines, but it is sooo good:

Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy, baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl

And along with the chorus, the second verse is astounding:

Well it was kind of cold that night,
She stood alone on her balcony
Yeah, she could hear the cars roll by,
Out on 441 like waves crashin' on the beach
And for one desperate moment
There he crept back in her memory
God it's so painful when something that's so close
Is still so far out of reach

Is that not a powerful set of lyrics?  "God it's so painful when something that's so close / Is still so far out of reach," hits home I think for everyone.  But while it is so relatable, I guess you could say it is a tiny bit depressing.  "And for one desperate moment / There he crept back in her memory."  A "desperate moment" is always a hopeless moment.

So many different feelings I feel are tackled in this song, which is partially why I think it is formidable.  The band made it an upbeat, fun-sounding song, yet they talk about a girl who stands on her balcony alone thinking about some guy who has no meaning to us as listeners.  It is like, you want to feel badly for her, but the song is so dance-worthy that you...can't.  Am I misinterpreting it?  Probably.

Cups (When I'm Gone)

Because I wasn't successful in placing in the talent show this past year with an acoustic guitar along with my vocals (even though we definitely deserved at least third place), I think I am going to go in a different direction with my performance.  Even though school has yet to start for the year and the talent will not be until January, I feel I need to start preparing as soon as possible so I can snag first, second, or third place.

Most people I know are absolutely sick of the song "Cups (Pitch Perfect's 'When I'm Gone')" sung by Anna Kendrick but I think those haters can get over themselves because the song is only two minutes.  I am really considering performing this song for the talent show.  I will probably record a performance of the song and put it on here and on YouTube to see the reactions it gets.  If all of it goes well, I will most definitely do that song for the talent show in hopes it will score me a win!

What I've always wanted to do

Something I have always wanted to do is have VIP backstage passes to a concert.  I want to hang backstage and meet a singer or band that I absolutely love!  I have been thinking about that a lot lately and the more I think about it, the more I want it to happen.

Another thing I have always wanted to do is perform at a big event or cool venue like Six Flags, Bamboozle, or even Madison Square Garden, which I know is taking it a little too far.

At the moment, I'm really itching to meet one of my favorite singers Sammy Adams.  I talked a little bit about him last week and have ever since been dying to meet him.  I think he is beyond cool and I am obsessed with his music!

I know I may sound like I am dreaming too big, but going to a music award show like the VMAs or the GRAMMYs is a huge dream of mine.  I don't even necessarily want to be nominated for anything.  I just want to be able to walk on the red carpet, meet my favorite people, and sit with all of them while watching the award show right in front of me.
