Tomorrow Never Dies

I am finally going to talk about the much anticipated album entitled 5 Seconds of Summer.

I bought 5 Seconds of Summer's debut album at Target so it came with four exclusive tracks and had a special cover.

The colors available for the Target version are blue, yellow, red, and white

The track listing is as follows:
  1. She Looks So Perfect
  2. Don't Stop
  3. Good Girls
  4. Kiss Me Kiss Me
  5. 18
  6. Everything I Didn't Say
  7. Beside You
  8. End Up Here
  9. Long Way Home
  10. Heartbreak Girl
  11. Mrs All American
  12. Amnesia
  13. Tomorrow Never Dies *
  14. Independence Day *
  15. Close As Strangers *
  16. Out of My Limit *
  17. Social Casualty **
  18. Never Be **
  19. Voodoo Doll **
  20. Greenlight ***
* Target Exclusive
** Deluxe Edition (available both in stores and online)
*** iTunes Deluxe Edition Bonus Track

It appears that the lads have been busy in the studio with twenty tracks!  If you purchase the album in the UK, "English Love Affair" replaces "Mrs All American," and if you purchase the album in Australia, "Lost Boy" replaces "Mrs All American."

If you purchase the deluxe album in Australia, the extra songs are "English Love Affair," "Social Casualty," "Never Be," and "Voodoo Doll."

If you live in Japan and purchase this album, the Japanese edition bonus tracks are "Heartache On the Big Screen," "The Only Reason," "What I Like About You," "Rejects," "Try Hard," "Social Casualty," "Never Be," and "Voodoo Doll."

I think, overall, the album is very strong.  I have found myself listening to and liking every track.  The only other artist I actually like every single track on the album is One Direction.

5SOS is classified on iTunes as pop, but with piercings, tattoos, edgy style and punk tendencies with a heavy guitar and strong beats on the drums, I kind of classify them as pop punk.  But just when I think one song is pop punk, I listen to a song like "Amnesia" and lean more towards pop.  Most people would say, "Pick a genre."  I don't think they need to.  This album shows that this group can sound pop, alternative, and a little rock, all while never losing the identity they have built for themselves these past few years as a band.

I'm really impressed with this record.  I love how the boys were involved in the writing of every song because each song is personal and you know it was written for the fans and not just for a spot on the charts.

Disconnected

I was listening to "Disconnected" by 5 Seconds of Summer from their recent EP She Looks So Perfect and I made an intellectual discovery.

The song sounds extremely similar to The 1975.

Just listen to even the first five seconds.  Now listen to "Girls" by the 1975.

The 1975 has a very distinct electric guitar sound that 5 Seconds of Summer displays in that song and that song only.

And coincidentally, both bands consist of four guys.  Hmm, some food for thought.

Heartache On The Big Screen

Photo:  Me!

I received this in the mail today!! :D It's 5 Seconds of Summer's new EP and first release in the US, She Looks So Perfect - EP (US Tour Edition) and that's why this artwork is different from the regular EP release.

The album is so good!  My favorite song is probably "Heartache On The Big Screen" (an outgoing song) with "The Only Reason" a close second.

You can purchase a physical copy of the album here with:
  1. She Looks So Perfect
  2. Heartache On The Big Screen
  3. The Only Reason
  4. Disconnected*
*Physical only

Or you can purchase it on iTunes with:
  1. She Looks So Perfect
  2. Heartache On The Big Screen
  3. The Only Reason
  4. What I Like About You*
*Digital only

As you may have guessed, "What I Like About You" is their cover of the 1979 hit by The Romantics.

I suggest you get a copy of this album especially if you are into the alternative genre.

She Looks So Perfect

I want to start by apologizing to all of my readers.  I haven't been on much because I have been extremely busy and overwhelmed with sports and school.  I am surprised I have found time to breathe.  I am going to try my best to post every day again.

On that note, 5 Seconds of Summer have recently released a new song on YouTube through a lyric video called "She Looks So Perfect."

[Source:  YouTube]
I think the lyrics are very clever:  "She looks so perfect standing there / In my American Apparel underwear," and "Your lipstick stain is a work of art / I've got your name tattooed in an arrow heart."  Those lines come from the first chorus.  It's a pop/rock love song the way he compliments her from her figure to the stain her lipstick leaves behind.

And how cute is it that he got her name tattooed...in an arrow heart?!?!  Aww, you cheeky boy.

In the second chorus, the lyrics change a little from "Your lipstick stain is a work of art / I've got your name tattooed in an arrow heart," to "I made a mixtape straight out of '94 / I've got your ripped skinny jeans lying on the floor."  I like making myself mixtapes, but receiving one from him from 1994 would be incredible and adorable.

The word "hey" was said 79 times.  79 times!  That's a lot of times.

The song is called "She Looks So Perfect" which is sung the first line of the chorus along with "...In my American Apparel underwear."  He says the whole time how much he loves her - all because he likes the way his underwear looks on her.
