Ironic

[Source:  YouTube]

Everyone knows "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette.  Did you know that the song isn't ironic at all?

The line to start the song is, "An old man turned ninety-eight / He won the lottery and died the next day."  He won the lottery and then died, which is simply just good luck and bad luck, not irony.  In the chorus she sings, "It's like rain on your wedding day," which is just a coincidence, not irony.  "It's a free ride when you've already paid."  I say you ask for your money back, so it's not irony.

What is ironic is if you are seeing a nutritionist who tells you to stay away from junk food and to exercise and as you leave you see them drive through a McDonald's and order a Big Mac.  That's irony.
