Lyric breakdown - "Miss Jackson" edition

This Panic! at the Disco song is one of my favorites right now.  I think it is so addicting and haven't been able to stop listening to it.  But, what does the song mean?  Well, this is what I decoded.

The song starts with Lolo singing, "Climbing out the back door, didn't leave a mark / No one knows it's you Miss Jackson / Found another victim / But no one's gonna find Miss Jackson, Jackson, Jackson."  When I first listened to it, I immediately thought of murder.  With "victim" and "didn't leave a mark," I assumed she committed a murder, but we'll return to this part a little later.

Lead singer Brendon Urie sings a little later, "He-eyy / Where will you be waking up tomorrow morning? / He-eyy / Out the back door / Godd*** / But I love her anyway."  When he sings this, the idea of Miss Jackson being a prostitute came into my mind, especially when he says, "Where will you be waking up tomorrow morning?"  Only hookers are unsure of where they will be waking up.  Although, it is a little odd that he then says, "But I love her anyway."  THIS SONG KEEPS SENDING MIXED SIGNALS.  After this part, I put that theory to the side because I really did not want to think that this is what the song is about.  That would be too funny.

But speaking of funny parts, the chorus goes, "Miss Jackson / Miss Jackson / Miss Jackson / Are you nasty?"  I think I actually cried from laughing so hard at this part.  I think I laughed at the fact that he asks if she's "nasty."  Oh gosh, I am just not sure.  But am I crazy for thinking that he is singing about a prostitute?

I have listened to this song about 50 times and I am almost 100% sure that he is singing about a hooker.  Let's go back to Lolo's part.  "Climbing out the back door, didn't leave a mark / No one knows it's you Miss Jackson / Found another victim / But no one's gonna find Miss Jackson, Jackson, Jackson."  Now, I figured that, with the prostitute theory, her victims would be her "clients," right?  So, she spends the night with these clients, but leaves before anyone sees her.  Miss Jackson steps out without leaving a trace.

Is this a messed up song or what?  I do find it pretty funny, though.  Here's the music video, even though that seems to be a little different than how the song sounds, but I'll explain that another day.

Springsteen & Van Halen

I went to the mall today with my friend and whenever I go to the mall, I always have to look for cool band tees.

I only go to Hot Topic when I want a band tee.  They have everything from classic Led Zeppelin to modern Avenged Sevenfold.  I always tend to gravitate towards the classic bands sine I am a pretty classic girl. They had sooo many that I wanted, but I eventually decided on a really cool Van Halen one.  I think Van Halen is so cool and the moment I saw that shirt I knew I had to have it.

Bruce Springsteen is a commonly used name in my household.  I went into H&M looking for yet another band tee and first stumbled upon a really cool Mick Jagger shirt.  Mick Jagger has so much swagger so I really thought that shirt was going to be the winner.  I held it in my hand, planning to get it, when I came across a shirt with the cover to Bruce Springsteen's The River.  I adore both singers, but Bruce Springsteen just fits me because of where he's from and where I'm from.

I saw so many cool shirts today but had a little amount of money, so unfortunately I could not purchase all of them.  Maybe I just shouldn't like so many bands.....Ha!  There is absolutely no way that will happen.

"Honest Love" for this artist

I find every artist I like on either Twitter or Instagram.  Where would I be without those social networks?

Brian Mackey is a New York based artist who originated from the Sunshine State.  On his website he says, "My songwriting is really just an autobiographical musical.  Ironically enough I've never been a fan of musicals," which I find to be kind of comedic.  Funny.

Honest Love is his most recent, and third, EP.  Feng Shui for Slobs was a 2008 release and Brian Mackey Red is from 2009.  I guess you could say he's gotten a lot done in the past six years.

Mackey also stated about Honest Love on his website, "When you strike a balance between thought and emotion, then you have something that translates to others."  I honestly don't think I could have ever said it better myself.  I mean, think about it.  Only the greatest artists have been able to accomplish that balance.  Jackson Browne did so with the song "The Pretender."  Don McLean succeeded with "American Pie."  "American Pie" translated perfectly to every single person when it was released back in 1971.  When listening to Brian's songs earlier, I can not tell you how accurate his word is.  He, to me, achieved something that has only been done, to me, by the "greats."  He found that "balance between thought and emotion" and he ran with it.  Kudos to you, Brian.

As if that isn't cool enough, his songs "Color Blue" and "Honest Love" off Honest Love have been used in movies with actress Sara Paxton and movies directed by Oliver Robins.  In my eyes, this guy has a lot to brag about.

One of his favorite artists is Bob Dylan.  Now, before I knew that information, when I first listened to his music, the only name that popped into my head was Bob Dylan.  Mackey is a more modern version of Dylan, yet he still has the sound of classic Bob Dylan.  He has the sound that I want to see more in singers.

He is one of those artists I would love to collaborate with and I mean what I say as far as collaborations are concerned.  His sound and his lyrics are what I love so much.

What I Know

I was listening to Pandora and the song "What I Know" by the band Parachute came on.  It's such a good song and they're such a good band!

Parachute is a pop band from Charlottesville, VA that has released three albums and four EPs, all of which are amazing.  Their latest album, which was released August 13th, peaked on the US charts at 15.

"What I Know" was the fourth single off their sophomore album The Way It Was.  I honestly don't know what I love so much about this song.  The backing vocals?  The percussion?  The lyrics?  I really love every aspect of this song.  About three minutes into the song is definitely my favorite part.  His range gets louder and ooooh!  It gives me goosebumps.

But that's not the only song of theirs that is really good.  I just listened to "Kiss Me Slowly" and that song is great, as well.  And don't tell anybody, but I have a little teenage crush on the drummer Johnny.  Shhhh.

All three of their albums are available on iTunes, but since I prefer owning a physical CD I will be purchasing mine online.

I don't know about you, but there's something I love so much about a band where they all play an instrument and I know I have definitely said that a million times.  I feel like they are really legit...like the Beatles or...the Eagles.  Like Lawson and Streetfight Silence, I am very impressed with this band's musical talent and abilities.  Very impressive, boys.  Please keep up the good work.

Over it

There are plenty of songs that I am SICK of hearing.  When these songs appear on the radio I want to rip my ears off (well, not exactly):

  1. Feel This Moment - Is Pitbull ever going away?  At first, I found this song catchy and I liked it but boy is it played too much.  And on top of that, it sounds like every other Pitbull song.  No one likes repetition.
  2. Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke is an attractive man, but I don't know how much longer I can listen to this.  When I was in the car the other day, this song was on the radio.  After about 30 seconds of listening, I decided I had enough of Robin and changed the station.  I kid you not, THE SAME SONG WAS ON THE OTHER STATION.  Now, I have seen Robin's episodes of Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live" and he seems like a really nice guy, so I am not bashing him, the song just gets on my nerves.
  3. Radioactive - Okay, why is this song still in the top 10????  I like Imagine Dragons but this song just has a weird sound to it, I do not care for it one bit!  It's one of those songs that I have tried so many times to like but I can't seem to get into it.
Okay, maybe I exaggerated a little too much, but I can't help it!  I am not criticizing these artists, I just can't stand their song.  That's all :)
